EDIT: The survey is now closed, thank you for taking part!

EDIT: A 12th language has been added! It is now possible for Chinese bitcoin users to take part in the #BitcoinSurvey2016 in their native language!

It’s that time of year, and following on from the success of the #BitcoinSurvey 2015, the BitcoinsInIreland.com team is launching an expanded international survey this year, backed by 1.25 bitcoin in rewards for participants.

The survey looks to get your feedback on a range of areas of bitcoin use, including general bitcoin usage, wallets, exchanges, gambling, faucets and mining. As with last year, we will be releasing information during the survey for the public to read and get insight at the end.

This year, we have the survey in the 11 international languages. All the surveys are the same, and will allow us to compare and contrast bitcoin usage across the world, especially in areas that have been under researched before, given that most of the research we’ve come across is very much North American focused.

We know that the survey takes a couple of minutes across the various topics, and for everyone’s effort, we are putting up 15 top rewards for survey participants across all of our international language surveys. Each month during April, May & June, we will draw five bitcoin addresses from survey respondents, take 0.25 of the rewards fund and send each 0.05. In July, once the survey has been completed, we will draw a sixteenth address, which will be sent 0.5 bitcoin.

Any bot driven or otherwise spoiled responses will be discarded and excluded from the draw. The process for drawing rewards is simple. At the end of the survey, you can fill in a bitcoin address, and each month we will take the total addresses across all surveys, put them all into a random name picker, run it, select a rewardee, take them out the list, run it again, and repeat until we have five addresses. We’ll record this process and stick up videos on our YouTube channel and then post the proof of payments.

We’ll be releasing interim reports here on Bitcoins In Ireland, and in some of the regular online bitcoin forums, so have your say today and participate in #BitcoinSurvey 2016, follow @BTCInIreland, like Facebook.com/BitcoinsInIreland or track #BitcoinSurvey2016 on Twitter for some interesting highlights as the survey progresses.

You can read the report from #BitcoinSurvey 2015 here.

If you would like to co-operate with the survey by donating some of your banner inventory for particular countries to the survey, for PR enquiries, or to assist in localising the survey into an additional language not already covered, please contact us.

BitcoinSurvey 2016 FAQ

About Us

The survey is conducted by independent Irish bitcoin website, BitcoinsInIreland.com. The survey is being conducted by Jamie McCormick, Rene Reichert, Nic Ryan and Stefan Linke. A report will be published at the end of the survey for all to read, along with information as the survey goes.

What happens with the information I give you?

Information will be stored by us, and collated into a broader report combining datasets from the different languages.

What personally identifiable information do you collect?

We don’t ask for personally identifiable information in any of the survey questions. We do ask for an optional email address (if you want to sign up for the newsletter, or if you win and we can’t send you your bitcoin prize). We also collect a bitcoin address for winners. When we are recording our draw, some of these may be recorded and posted to our YouTube channel.

The software we use also collects IP addresses, and other session information from your browser.

Can i be “forgotten”?

After information is aggregared, you can request your survey information is deleted from our survey software. However, we will require an email from the corresponding email address (if entered) or a signed message from the bitcoin address to confirm this.

I put the wrong bitcoin address in, can this be changed?

In the event of us having a technical error stopping us from transmitting a bitcoin transaction, we will contact the email address that goes with the survey response. This did happen once last year, and we were able to make sure a reward got to the participant.

Privacy disclaimer

We have a full privacy policy for BitcoinsInIreland.com which can he read here.

Who can complete the survey?

Everyone can participate, please note though that each user can only fill out the survey one time. Multiple surveys from the same person will see all of their responses excluded from the draw, as will bot/macro filled in surveys.

Why should I participate in your survey?

While there is quite a bit of information available about Bitcoin and the blockchain in general, there is little information available about the actual BTC user. We are Bitcoin enthusiasts are ourselves and would like to know more about like minded people who enjoy the BTC community as much as we do.

When will the survey results be published?

We will be releasing some interesting tidbits of information on our social media channels, and forums we’re positng on throughout the survey. We aim to have the survey report published and online in late July/early August.

Can I save my answers and finish the survey later?

Yes, as long as you don’t clear your cookies, or don’t switch devices, Polldaddy (our survey software) will allow you to continue the survey where you left off. If using incognito mode, this may mean you have to restart.

Do I have to answer every question?

No, you don’t. The gambling section of the survey are optional and can be skipped. Also, some of the more general questions are also optional. That being said, there are also mandatory questions. Those questions are highlighted with an asterisk(*).

Can I change my answers after I have completed the survey?

No, once you have completed the survey, you cannot change your answers.

I entered the wrong email address and want to be notified about the Bitcoinsinireland.com Bitcoin Survey in 2017. Can you add me to the newsletter?

Yes, there is an option in the survey to do this. We don’t take the piss with our mailing lists, and rarely send emails.

Will i be notified if i win?

Yes, you’ll see a unexpected bitcoin transaction for 0.05 or 0.50 bitcoin 🙂 If you search for this transaction, it’ll bring you back to this survey.

When will i receive my reward?

We will send out rewards for the previous month by the start of the second week of the following month (ie April rewards by second week of May).

Can i refer a friend?

Of course you can.

What do you do with my email address? do you sell it on?

No, we don’t. As stated elsewhere already, we don’t like or believe in email spam ourselves and on average send a single newsletter update every 6 months. We do however plan to expand the Bitcoin Survey over the coming years and would like to notify you about the next one!

Are you going to share the results of the survey with us?

Yes, we plan to publish the results of the survey on bitcoinsinireland.com.
