It always seems that we get pairs of bitcoin stories, and while our last two local stories were about Dublin Bitcoin events, this month we have two Northern Irish stories. It seems that in May, there will be two separate bitcoin events in Belfast, so I thought I’d relay the information here. BitcoinsInIreland will definitely be at the second event, and will try to make it up to the first one.

Belfast Bitcoin Meetup on May 21st
Like here in Dublin, meetup.com is being used to organise an event on May 21st with the inaugural Belfast Bitcoin Meetup. Bitnet Technologies are organising it at http://www.meetup.com/Belfast-Bitcoin-Meetup/events/221979068/ and it’s from 6.30 to 8.30 at Bitnet’s offices in Ormeau Avenue, Belfast on the eve of the 5th anniversary of Bitcoin Pizza Day.

This is your opportunity to get an introduction to Bitcoin, find out what is happening in Belfast with respect to Bitcoin and hang out with people who want to talk about Bitcoin! This is also your chance to influence the content of future Belfast Bitcoin Meetups.

So whether you are a subject matter expert on Bitcoin, a research student, a business that wants to accept Bitcoin or just curious as to what it is all about, then come along and join @BelfastBitcoin. Pizza and refreshments are organised by hosts Bitnet Technologies.

Bitcoin Association Northern Ireland 1st Regional Meetup on May 28th
A week later, the BANI, which is run by CoinTelegraph UK editor Niall Maye is running their first regional meetup at Belfast’s first bitcoin accepting coffee shop, the Boden Park Coffee Company further up Ormeau Road, again between 6.30pm and 8.30pm

They are the 1st coffee shop in N.Ireland to accept Bitcoin for their delicious selection of coffee and freshly baked products. In addition Boden Park Coffee Co. Ltd. have also procured the 1st exchange terminal in N.Ireland (Coinkite) so anyone can come to the premises and purchase Bitcoin in a simple and efficient manner.

This event has quite a lot of sponsorship, with our sister company BitcoinMarketingTeam.com, Mayo based cryptocurrency exchange The Coin Cave, UK based cryptocurrency exchange Bittylicious, Antrim based design studio Osk&r Juliet, bitcoin payment processing powerhouse Bitpay and wallet provider Netki.

The BANI meet-ups are being held to inform people who have an interest in bitcoin, and to give them an opportunity to meet people with a similar interest in the applications of the technology. Also at the meet-up there will be a very important opportunity to discuss and decide on the way forward for Bitcoin in Northern Ireland in regards to promotion, education and regulations.

BANI has been asked to be representatives for N.Ireland in the upcoming United Kingdom HMT consultations, and this gives us a perfect opportunity to use our position to fight regulations that will stifle innovation. You can RSVP to the event my emailing niallmaye [at] bani [dot] org [dot] uk and click here for full details.
