We always like to hear news from the Irish bitcoin scene. And today, we received an email from Sinéad Nic Clámha Pilates who have announced that they are accepting bitcoin for their bundles of pilates classes, available online at http://sncpilates.com/. The press release is below, but we followed up with Sinéad to ask for some background as to why she choose to accept bitcoin and be first Pilates instructor in Ireland to accept Bitcoin payments, and here’s what she said.
I initially became aware about Bitcoin through my fiancé and my brother in law, who both did some bitcoin mining in the past. I actually don’t have too much insight on how the technology behind Bitcoin actually works but I was interested in using it as I’m always looking to lower my overheads. I currently pay about 4% on my credit card fees through Stripe, so I jumped at the chance to have much lower transaction fees. My fiancé is my web developer and he set it up for me, I’m using an Electrum wallet to receive any bitcoin purchases through the site.
I will probably try to move to a Bitcoin processor like BitPay in the future if I see the interest develop in the payment method. Time will tell whether fitness-aficionados will embrace the virtual currency movement but I hope they do, as I love the potential of Bitcoin.
It only went live this morning, and I have yet to have a purchase in bitcoin but I hope it wont be long until they start coming in. [Note from ed, if you want to help her on, visit http://sncpilates.com/shop/]
So best of luck, and the press release in full is below!
